Langkawi Isle: Bay of Sharks (Teluk Yu)

Teluk Yu or translated as “Bay of Sharks” is a stretch of beach located along the northern coast of Langawi Island, bewteen Pantai Pasir Hitam and Pantai Pasir Tengkorak. Langkawi Isle: Black Sand Beach (Pantai Pasir Hitam)

Pantai Pasir Hitam (or Black Sand Beach) is a beach located at the north end side of Langkawi, known for its black colored sands. Although the black sands have been slowly washed over by the sea waters over the years, there are still some left over on the shore. Although there are a few local fables surrounding the origin of these black sands, a more scientific origin is due to the existence of a huge amount of minerals called Tourmaline and Ilmenite in the granites of Mount Raya and these minerals apparently caused the darkened color of the sands.
